First Grade

First Grade AR Guidelines

Read each night with a parent or other family member at least 30 minutes.

Team up with older students as a "reading buddy" to read AR books.

Continue learning the process of reading an AR book and taking an AR test with their reading buddy.

Begin taking over more responsibility for reading books on their own as the year progresses.

CLASSROOM AR WORD COUNT AWARDS FOR FIRST GRADE

As each first grade class take tests they "earn" words that accumulate into a class total. Each book has a certain number of words. If a test is taken on a book that contains 380 words AND a student receives a 100% on the AR test, those 380 words will be added to a class total. If the score is an 80%, then they only receive some of the 380 words. First grade classes earn ribbon awards when they reach a specific number of words as a class. These certificates hang in the windows for all to see the hard work they have achieved.
