Second Grade AR Guidelines Read each night with a parent or other family member at least 15 minutes. Read a total of thirty minutes independently each day. EACH AR BOOK SHOULD BE READ AT LEAST TWO OR THREE TIMES TO ENSURE A JOB WELL DONE ON THE AR TEST. Continue learning the process of reading an AR book and taking an AR test. Practice reading orally to family members to practice fluency.
CLASSROOM AR WORD COUNT AWARDS FOR SECOND GRADE As each second grade class take tests they "earn" words that accumulate into a class total. Each book has a certain number of words. If a test is taken on a book that contains 620 words AND a student receives a 100% on the AR test, those 620 words will be added to a class total. If the score is an 80%, then they only receive a portion of the 620 words. Second grade classes earn ribbon awards when they reach a specific number of words as a class. These certificates hang in the windows for all to see the hard work they have achieved. Second
